Job Description:
The Executive Director of Multimedia (ED) serves as a key leader within Syracuse University's creative team reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). The Executive Director is responsible for implementing a creative strategy through use of dynamic multimedia (videography and photography) to strengthen the University's brand and advance the university's priorities and goals. The ED co-creates and helps execute marketing strategies for significant national campaigns and programs to advance organizational goals. This involves contributing strategic insights of how to leverage videography and multimedia assets within larger marketing efforts, in order to bring the SU story to life through high-end multimedia productions and daily fast-turn content/storytelling opportunities which often involves creative concepting. A key steward of the brand, this individual leads a dynamic technical team of photographers, videographers, producers, and editors day-to-day, moving with agility /speed to translate marketing and digital strategies into consistent and compelling content and stories. Demonstrates leadership in translating marketing data and insight into creative decision-making.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree required.
Eight (8) plus years of experience developing strategic creative, multimedia programs.
Five (5) plus years leading global multimedia teams as part of a modern marketing operations in order to advance strategic marketing goals.
Three (3) plus years of technical marketing experience.

Job Specific Qualifications:

Understands multimedia delivery across multiple mediums, impact of how to deliver multimedia project across mobile, digital and other platforms.
Dynamic, contemporary modern marketer with deep experience in multimedia production and storytelling, scriptwriting, multichannel marketing.
Significant experience/technical understanding shooting, editing and archiving systems and approaches.
Move with urgency & manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Work effectively under pressure of last minute deadlines/changing priorities.
Understanding digital media platforms, social media.
Requires advanced knowledge of video post-production related software including, but not limited to Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, asset management system.
Writing & Producing for online audiences.
Close visual acuity to perform tasks related the production of content.
Ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
Frequently moves Audio/Visual equipment across campus to various sites, for events; ability to move, lift, set up and break down videography equipment.
Ability to lift 25-50 lbs. repeatedly at multiple assignments.
Flexibility/ability to position oneself to shoot a variety of images.
Photo/video shoots may require standing, sitting, and kneeling for 4-8 hours.

Responsibilities:

Creates and implements creative strategies to leverage multimedia to advance high-profile marketing campaigns. Serves as strategic contributor related to how to leverage video and multimedia to advance marketing campaigns. Serves as lead art director and works with other creative leaders to art direct work and ensure that approaches are brand-aligned, audience-first and effective at advancing strategic goals. Leads videographers, photographers and editors as needed on significant national shoots. Leads or contributes to creative concepting. Effectively leads and manages multimedia and photography teams, ensuring creative output is of the highest standards and brings the brand to life in meaningful and dynamic ways. Well versed in modern marketing trends and practices. Understands and can lead team to leverage multimedia to advance digital and content marketing programs. A brand ambassador, deeply understands the principles of the Syracuse University brand strategy, and pushes boundaries while being consistent in bringing the brand to life. Provides creative concepting leadership on high-end productions. Focused on building a library of strategically focused multimedia productions that effectively share Syracuse University stories.

Collaborates effectively with the Strategy, Design, Content and Operations (including MarTech, Digital, Research/Analytics) teams to move creative concepts to multimedia production. Guides team members in effective ways to express conceptual design in multimedia platforms. Partners effectively with marketing strategy and business unit teams to understand audiences and goals and to translate into effective multimedia approaches. Identifies, vets, hires and manages vendors as needed. A key leader in advancing our content strategy, ensure structure and systems are in place in order to get timely and relevant multimedia content to market. Highly effective at activating plans that move story/content concepts from the content strategy through to produced multimedia deliverables. Ensures that raw or produced content flows daily to the digital team or other marketing teams. Provides feedback and signs off on projects, working closely with CMO on larger initiatives.

Ensures hundreds of projects are completed on time and on budget. Works directly with Chancellor and other Senior Leaders re: to multimedia for significant projects and initiatives. Provides creative leadership within group and across teams. Build and effectively implement strategic and operational plan for multimedia area. Works with other marketing and communications team to streamline process, creative presentation standards and other critical infrastructure.

Partners with Director of Marketing Technology manage and leverage modern technology solutions. Responsible for ensuring systems allow for appropriate digitizing, archiving and logging of multimedia content so it is searchable and well maintained. Tracks impact/engagement measures to guide creative decision making.
