Job Description:

The Dolbier Research Group at the Department of Chemistry, University of Florida (UF), Gainesville, FL, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in Organic Chemistry. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor William Dolbier () focusing on the development of synthetic methodology in the area of organofluorine chemistry. This one-year appointment is renewable based on performance and funding availability.

The successful candidates shall have strong experience in synthetic organic chemistry, and preferably also experience in synthetic organofluorine chemistry. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for conducting research in synthesizing and characterizing fluorinating reagents and fluorinated compounds of biological interest. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also be expected to assist in the preparation of manuscripts based on his/her work.

Our group specializes in the development of new synthetic methodologies directed at the incorporation of fluorinated alkyl groups, such as CF 3 , HCF 2 , and HCF 2 CF 2 into aliphatic and aromatic substrates. Free radical methodologies are a primary focus of the Dolbier group. This includes the use of photoredox chemistry to generated and utilize fluoroalkyl radicals. The group also will be working to develop methods of creating new fluorinated substituents that should be of interest to pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries.

Expected Salary:

The salary is $50,000 and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Chemistry

The successful candidate should have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, preferably with some experience in synthetic organofluorine chemistry.

Experience in molecular characterization.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong experience in synthetic organic chemistry.

Preferably also with experience in synthetic organofluorine chemistry.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Ability to take initiative, set priorities, time management, and resolve problems
