Drug Information and Personnel Management

Maintains a drug information practice contributing to daily responsibilities of the Drug Information Team
Directs the provision of drug information to healthcare provider requests and education to pharmacy trainees
Investigates and responds to safety events related to roles and responsibilities of the drug information team
Defines the roles and responsibilities of assigned employees, monitors workload metrics, and maintains appropriate staffing levels
Manages position descriptions, competency assessments, position requests, position justifications, recruitment, hiring, and training
Manages time off of assigned employees to ensure appropriate coverage
Ensures all new employees are properly trained
Informally and formally assesses staff competence and completes annual performance evaluations
Properly documents and follows institutional policy and procedure for employee performance or behavior issues
Provides clear direction and communication to employees within the department
Promotes and maintains constructive intra and interdepartmental relationships by working collaboratively to achieve departmental and divisional goals and outcomes

Formulary Management System Oversight and Optimization

Oversees, implements, and manages a robust formulary management system to promote rational and cost-effective medication management
Oversees creation, maintenance, and implementation of formulary management related policies and processes
Ensures routine updates to the Formulary including formulary restrictions and dosage forms

Develops data analytics for the formulary management system and makes data-driven decisions to optimize the system
Manages the Formulary On-Call and Escalation Teams including the on-call schedule
Manages reporting of formulary adherence and other related regulatory requirements
Directs the identification and conduct of formulary management, medication-use evaluation, and cost savings initiatives

Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, Drug Shortage, and Risk Evaluation and Mitigation (REMS) Management

Define, develops, and manages activities and functions related to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
Facilitates P&T meeting planning and formulary request prioritization in collaboration with the committee chairs
Supports P&T chair and member selection and their onboarding
Oversees preparation of the P&T Committee annual report and any associated presentations
Provides oversight for implementation of P&T Committee decisions ( eg, EHR updates, Formulary updates, workflow development)
Ensures the P&T Committee is compliant with Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements (eg, regular review of documents governed by the committee)
Provides support and oversight for drug shortage management including policies and procedures, decision-making, and institutional escalation of supply issues
Provides support and oversight for Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies including process development, education, and audit response
Stays up to date on new medication approvals, indication changes, market withdrawals, and relevant drug compendial changes
Actively participates in assigned institutional and divisional committees

Medicare Billing Compliance Oversight

Provides oversight for pharmacy-related Medicare billing compliance efforts, such as assigning billing modifiers based on supporting evidence, selecting new target drugs, coordinating implementation of modifiers for additional drugs, responding to ABN help desk requests, etc.
Guides efforts to support drug denial reduction related to medication-use including institutional committee participation

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.

Preferred Education: Doctorate (Professional)

Certification: Texas State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license within 90 days of job entry.

Preferred Certification: American Hearth Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Board of Pharmaceutical Specialty Certification (BCPS)

Experience:
Post Graduate Year 1 (Pharmacy Practice) and Post Graduate Year 2 (in the areas of specialization) residency -OR- equivalent experience as a Clinical Pharmacist in the area of specialization and five years experience in practice area of specialization. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Preferred Experience: Drug Information, Formulary Management, and/or Medication-Use Safety and Policy experience
Three years hospital pharmacy experience
Pharmacy supervisory or management experience
