Parsons School of Design, a college of The New School, seeks a full-time Academic Communications Coordinator. The Academic Communications Coordinator supports and works with program staff and leadership to keep the Parsons community and the public informed of Parsons' resources, opportunities, programs and achievements. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Academic Communications, they help devise and execute strategy relating to program marketing, social media, and internal communications. Parsons is comprised of over 35 undergraduate and graduate art and design degree programs.

The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills and must be proactive, creative, and flexible, with a high level of professional discretion and an eye for details.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, create, and execute brand-relevant content across multiple platforms. Primary focus will be student-focused program communications, news, and faculty/student/alumni work.
Work closely with and provide support for school Associate Directors of Operations, program directors, and program administrators on internal communications.
Write and edit short and long-form copy and produce visual assets - photography and/or video - for web, social media, e-newsletters, print, etc.
Create relationships with key stakeholders including program leadership, school staff, faculty, and student groups to solicit and develop stories for external and internal audiences.
Support a culture of inclusion and shared community-building that welcomes and engages multiple voices and perspectives, leading with examples of work that reflect our mission and values.
Work with program/School staff, faculty, or students to create and publish content for program-based social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) including event promotion, work/research opportunities, live coverage of events, and external or co-curricular partnerships as appropriate.
Serve as primary liaison to Marketing and Communications and program leadership to ensure that marketing materials are up to date.
Collaborates closely with and supports faculty, staff and students who work on social media for Parsons program/schools. Maintains up-to-date inventory of all social accounts and managers across Parsons; Initiates and conducts training sessions and maintains support materials for content contributors.
Route content through approvals processes as needed.
Support the Parsons Academic Communications team and university Marketing and Communications office as needed with content for Parsons and New School-branded channels.
Supervise student workers.
Moderate and provide support for groups on the New School Network, including alumni and affinity groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree.
3-6 years experience working in communications, marketing, social media, as a project manager, or comparable position.
Demonstrable social media experience and social analytics tools knowledge.
Excellent writing, , presentation and communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, close attention to detail, and strong organizational and time management abilities.
Proven track record of working well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Comfortable working in a fast-based environment; able to juggle multiple tasks with good time management skills.
Ability to take initiative and follow through on deadline.
High degree of familiarity with office and email applications including Google Drive, Word, Excel, Keynote, and Mailchimp.
The ability to be self-directed, flexible, proactive, think creatively, and work as a part of an administrative team.
High degree of discretion.
Preference for experience in communication design, photography, or video production.
Ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff with a high degree of cultural competence.

WORK MODE

Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-Hybrid

SALARY RANGE

$62,400 - $65,000 per annum
